Overview
The primary objective of this task was to measure in detail the energy inputs, flows and outputs, and internal and external environment of a commercial office building. These data allowed in-depth comparisons of the actual energy performance of the building with that predicted by load/energy computer programs. A better understanding of energy transfers in buildings and improved computer programs were consequently objectives.
The participants jointly funded a project to monitor the Collins Publishers building in Glasgow, Scotland.
Many of the computer models which were compared in Task 1 used this data for further comparisons which provided far greater insight into the thermal performance of real buildings, as well as the problems of specifying the geometry of buildings and the thermal properties of construction materials.
