Introduction
The IEA-EBC Annex 85 Online Workshop was held on September 11th, 2020 at Beijing, using ZOOM meeting room. Present at the Meeting were representatives from Belgium, Denmark, France, USA, Egypt, China, Australia. The meeting was opened by Associate professor Xiaoyun Xie. Five presentations were given by five countries. These presentations aim to exchange the fundamental study and application of the IEC technology in participating countries. The objectives of the workshop are to further refine the main technologies and subtasks of the project and confirm the participants and leader for each subtask.
Main Content
Presentation from participants to introduce the current study and application of IEC technology in his/her country/region
-
1)Belgium (Sylvano Tusset, & Jean-Claude Marbaix)
Status of IEC technologie (including air cooling and water cooling system) in Belgium and study of climate data
-
2) Denmark (Alireza Afshari, & Michal Pomianowski, & Hicham Johra)
Introduction to Modelica to develop the library for simulation; Introduced a potential field study case in which air is dehumidified before evaporation. The heat source comes from solar wall and district heating; Fundamental study of airflow in IEC system.
-
3) United States (Kashif Nawaz)
Introduction of research status in US and previous result related to Annex 85. Introduced the heat and mass transfer study and development of advanced heat exchangers for hybrid evaporative cooling systems. Standards and compliance related to evaporative cooling in US.
-
4) France (Prepared by Chadi Maalouf, presented by Yijie Liu)
Study of cooling potential of dew point cooling system, including the development and validation of numerical model, optimization study, and experiment.
Brief research status and processes on IEC technologies in China. Introduced suitable regions for IEC in northwest of China. Provides various IEC processes and field test cases in China. Proposed process optimization using dissipation analysis.
Research plan and frame work discussion
-
a. Provide clear and scientific definition of terms like “dry region” or “dry climate”
-
b. Emphasize the importance of energy saving in objectives and subtasks. May put energy saving and the effect on reducing global warming gas in subtask A.
-
c. Give identification of systems. Provide baseline cooling system for comparison.
-
d. The major aim of “subtask B: feasibility study” is finding out the current major limit of using evaporative cooling widely.
-
e. For “subtask C: fundamental study”, disscuss whether heat and mass transfer optimization of kinds of IEC devices should be included.
Progress
-
Exchange the present study and application of the IEC technology in each country.
-
The main technologies and subtasks of the project have been further refined.
-
Introduce the responsibility of each participant and each subtask leader.
-
Most participants have chosen subtask they take part in
Follow up
-
Confirm participants for each subtask and further discuss each subtask leader.
